When ”plan A” didn’t work out, we moved on to ”plan B.” Needless to say, that didn’t play out either. Down the road, we found a great dispersed site at Rocky Point West - BLM on Eagle Lake. ”Plan C” rules!
Top Pic: Mount Tom peaking through the clouds. It was one of those travel days that should have been easy, but... After adjusting plans a couple of times, we ended up at Horton Creek to avoid the storms at higher elevations.
Alabama Hills has been on our Bucket List for some time. We scored a scenic (but perhaps not that level) site just off Movie Road. Over 400 movies have been filmed in this area.

We found a great campsite in Water Canyon BLM. The campsites are scattered along the road & creek. We took the first site. Looking up the canyon, only one other RV is insight.
We found a gem for our first stop of this trip. A very scenic & well cared for BLM campground located near both the Steens Mountain & Malheur National Wildlife Refuge.
Quiet little campground tucked away on the North Fork of the Malheur River.
Rio Grande del Norte National Monument is a short drive from our Forest Service campground, so it only made sense to check it out. We had a fun day exploring and hiking.
This unique canyon is one of the few places where the Mojave River flows above ground. A good stopping spot not far from the highway.
We found a very nice area for dispersed camping. We saw very few campers in this spacious area that offered lots of level space to camp.
This BLM campground is a couple of hours east of Bend, OR. Right now, the lake is so low that the dock and boat ramp no longer reach the water, resulting in an empty campground.
Short drive day – 99 miles. We thought we would go a tad further, but pulled in here and liked it. Gotta love the views!
Horton Creek Campground is located a short drive to Bishop and sits in the high desert with spectacular mountain views in every direction.
"Our campsite in this high desert campground backed up to Tuttle Creek, which was loaded with rainbow trout. And it’s near the famed Alabama Hills, where numerous films were shot."
"From this small BLM campground, we could watch the blue herons feeding their fledglings in the nests on the cliffs across from our site. A very peaceful place."
